Change in GDP across UK regions and local areas in the Greater West of England, 2013 to 2023

This data insight describes changes in real gross domestic product (GDP) across regions and local authority areas, using inflation-adjusted measures (the effect of inflation is removed to understand changes in economic output over time).

Where available, data comparisons are presented for the Greater West of England, comprising Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon. Where real GDP estimates cannot be robustly produced for bespoke geographies, analysis is shown for the South West of England region, one of 12 International Territorial Level 1 areas (ITL1) in the UK, comprising Gloucestershire and Wiltshire; West of England; North Somerset, Somerset and Dorset; Devon; and Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.

Using Office for National Statistics (ONS) chained volume measure data, the charts present comparisons of real GDP change in the latest year and over the latest decade. All growth rates remove the effects of inflation and reflect changes in the volume of economic activity.
