Prevalence of diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis in the Greater West of England compared with England and other English regions
This data insight describes the prevalence of two long-term conditions diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis in the Greater West of England. The estimates are for people aged 17 and over for diabetes, and 16 and over for rheumatoid arthritis.
Using data from the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), the indicators show the proportion of patients on general practice (GP) surgery registers who have been diagnosed with either condition.
The analysis presents trends over time, and comparisons with the national average in England and other English regions. Local authority estimates within the Greater West of England are based on the location of GP surgeries rather than patient residence.
The data are sourced from NHS England via the Fingertips Public Health Profiles and reflect diagnosed and recorded cases; some difference should therefore be expected with the true prevalence of the conditions among the population.
The Greater West of England is defined here as Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. It includes the Greater West of England areas as well as wider parts of the South West, including Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. England is used as a national comparator.
