Among unitary authorities, Wiltshire recorded the largest population at 523,700 followed by Bristol at 494,399. Bath and North East Somerset recorded a population of 200,028, while North Somerset and Swindon recorded populations of 224,578 and 243,875 respectively.
Within Gloucestershire, the combined county population was 669,380. At district level, populations ranged from 89,753 in Forest of Dean to 138,598 in Gloucester. Cheltenham recorded a population of 121,739, while Stroud recorded 125,680.
